By now most people have heard of Twitter and are already tweeting until their hearts are content.

However, as an MLM distributor is it possible to use Twitter for MLM leads generation?

Of course, if you respect and interact with the community the way you should. I have used the formula below to build a community of “active” followers on multiple accounts that grows at a rate on average of 500+ each per day.

To be successful on Twitter as an MLM distributor, incorporate the following success formula:

MLM distributors success = adding value to the community through content + giving to the community without want.

So how does one do that and be successful at MLM leads generation?

Well, it starts with the image that you present to the community in your profile and the way that you have it set-up.

Profile

There are three important areas of your Twitter profile that you want to pay attention to if you want to succeed in this community as an MLM distributor.

First is your picture. If you intention is to interact and transact with someone on Twitter, I would suggest that your picture be a head shot and somewhat of a professional look. When you upload, make sure your picture looks good as a thumbnail picture. This is what everyone is going to see first within the community.

Second is your bio. Your bio should start with a link to a website where one can get more information about you. I recommend that it should be your blog. Along with this link, attach a 160 character bio that best describes you and your involvement with the community. Hint: As an MLM distributor you may want to use keywords within your bio.

Third is background. This is not important at first, but as you are building your brand you may want to change the background to standout from the masses. When you’re ready to make changes to your background, Google “Twitter backgrounds” for free and paid ways to make that change.

Now you are ready to “tweet.” So what would an MLM distributor “tweet”?

This is where the adding value and giving to the community comes in.

I like to tweet about the industry, what is happening, who to watch for, resources that have been helpful and articles that I have enjoyed.

I interact with the community by responding to direct messages (DM) that I receive, as well as, when someone ReTweet’s a message that I sent.

Sometimes, people will just mention you in their tweets. I always acknowledge each one and pass on something positive.

The one thing that I never tweet about is a business opportunity. That is not adding value to the community, it is called spamming!

So how can MLM distributors be successful at MLM leads generation on Twitter?

Periodically throughout the day I will create a tweet that addresses a problem within the community and a solution to that problem. I will provide a link to that solution. Remember: I never tweet about a business opportunity.

I use the 90/10 rule for my tweets. If I was to send out 100 tweets throughout a 24 hour period, then 90% of them would be considered value adding tweets. The remaining 10% would consist of personal and marketing related tweets.

Why it is Important to be Social in Social Media

If you are like me, you have become fascinated with the popularity of social media and the diversity of its involvement into the mainstream of our lives.

All you have to do for social proof is to take a look at the Alex ranking of the Top 20 most visited websites on the Internet and you will see that 5 of these sites are social media sites (#2 Facebook, #4 YouTube, #12 MySpace, #15 Twitter, #20 Bing)

So I think it is comfortable to say that social media is here to stay and if we are waiting to see if it is a fad or a force, I am here to help, it is a FORCE.

Now if your thought is to get involved in ALL the social media sites, you are biting off more than perhaps you can chew. Why? Because there is literally hundreds of social media/bookmarking sites available to us that offer similar and in some cases distinct options.

My recommendation would be to join three to four at the beginning and really master the use of the site before moving on to the next one and the next one.

One of my observations as I virtually travel through these sites is the lack of “social” etiquette used by some users within these communities.

What I mean by this is that each and every social media site is a community within itself. It has its basic structure and rules and regulations. The community as a whole will help others stay within those guidelines using various methods such as; gentle hints in posts, deleting of comments and in some cases pretty nasty communication.

So if we are interested in joining a community, then it is my recommendation to learn the dos and don’ts of that community.

The first thing I recommend that you do when you join a social media site is to fully complete a profile and upload an appropriate picture of yourself.

I don’t know how many people on a daily basis try and offer me, sell me, connect with me, etc… within a social media community and do not even have a picture uploaded.

This actually boggles my mind.

Why would I want to connect or do business with anyone that does not have the decency or credibility to upload an appropriate picture of them? Answer: I wouldn’t. For me any communication I receive from another member of the social media site that I am a member of that does not have an appropriate picture uploaded is immediately deleted.

Now let’s talk about what an appropriate picture is within a social media site. Well that depends on what you are using that site for. If you are using the site strictly for social interaction and non-business connecting than any picture that you choose to represent you is of course at your discretion. In some examples that I have come across, some people do not necessarily use any discretion.

So, the question that remains is what is an appropriate picture for one to use within a social media site if one is choosing to conduct business? Answer: A picture of you that your grandmother would be proud of.

We have all seen the examples of pictures used on a social media site that are at best questionable and yet the individual is expecting to have credibility with their audience.

Personally, when I coach someone about personal branding, the first two things that I review are the picture and the information being used in a profile.

It starts with your picture. That is the first thing that people see of you. It should represent you in a positive manner. Now, I am not suggesting that it shouldn’t be fun, what I am suggesting is the “one” picture that you choose to represent yourself in that social media site should be appropriate for your chosen use for that site. Hint: I recommend putting the fun pictures within the appropriate sections of the profile.

In closing, the most important part of social media is to be “social.” Think of it as you walking into a room of people that you have never met, but want to get to know. Ask yourself this question, “How should I present myself if I want to attract people to me?”

Forum Marketing: How to Effectively Get Kicked Out of ALL the Communities

A forum is generally made up of a community of people that gather to share ideas, concepts and strategies surrounding a general or specific topic.

The forum is usually laid out in topic categories and the community members usually communicate through discussion posts.

Each member has the ability to control their preferences, profile, signatures, messages and subscriptions through a dashboard called The User Control Panel.

Now one of the first things you will notice when you join a forum is the rules set forth by the administrators for use of the forum.

In order to effectively get yourself kicked out of the community, the first thing you need to realize is that those rules are not for you, they are there for all other members to adhere to.

The first thing you want to do once you log into your forum account is to update your signature file within your profile.

Remember; do not fill out your profile with any information. These spaces have been created for the other users.

The signature file is a great place to put as many links as you can possibly stuff in the space provided. Don’t worry about continuity or whether or not these links are relevant.

Once you have completed updating your signature file, your next step is to post a thread or join an existing discussion. Most users will look for a forum post or threads that interest them. This is not important to you, remember, you are not “most users.”

Randomly pick a discussion that seems to be popular and create a post that aggressively promotes your business opportunity. Do not worry about whether your post has anything to do with the current discussion.

Once you have posted to an existing discussion it is important to create your own discussion. This is important, so pay attention.

You want to create one post that aggressively promotes your business opportunity with no less than ten (10) personal links embedded in the post.

Once you have created this post, copy it and post it in every discussion area available within that particular forum community.

Upon completing these posts it is important to use exactly the same strategy in as many forum communities as possible.

One of the most effective strategies you can implement to get yourself kicked out of the community is to use what you have learned above and post in forums that have absolutely nothing to do with your business opportunity at all.

Remember, the less relevant your posts are and the less relevant the forum topics are the more effective your strategy will work.

I guarantee that if you follow what you have learned above, you will find that in a very short time (perhaps the same day) you will have effectively been kicked out of the forum communities that you have posted in.

Do whatever it takes to overcome the urge to add any value to others through your posts. All this is going to do is delay your overall strategy of getting yourself kicked out of a forum community.

Raiders of the "Lost" Network Marketer

Raiding an MLM Organization

 

About a month ago I received a call from a “top network marketer” that had just joined a new opportunity and wanted me to drop what I was doing and join them.

Now as you get more successful in the industry, these calls will become more frequent and on the surface can be flattering.

However, on this occasion, the last thing I would use to describe this call would be flattering.

You see, the individual just assumed that since they had left their previous opportunity and taken most of their organization with them to the new opportunity, then I would naturally do the same.

Problem #1 – I wasn’t interested in a new opportunity. In other words, I was not a good candidate.

Problem #2 – This individual without even asking whether or not I was interested, just started to “sell” me on the opportunity and what they could do for me “when” I decide to move over to the new opportunity.

This of course led to…

Problem #3 – The discussion of “raiding” my existing organization, as well as, the compensation I would receive as a “signing bonus” from the new opportunity. You see, they were going to pay me six figures just to move over with my team… interesting… but highly unethical!

Needless to say, I thanked them for thinking of me and ended the call.

What is this “Raiding” Recruiting Strategy?

This recruiting strategy is when someone decides to actively pursue another network marketer’s team with the sole purpose of having them come join them at a new opportunity.

This marketing strategy has been taught for years to unsuspecting new recruits as a fool-proof method of building your organization.

This strategy has been used within the same company, as well as, against other companies within the same direct selling industry.

This strategy is at epidemic proportions and directly impacts all areas of the direct selling profession.

How does this recruiting strategy negatively impact my credibility?

The moment you begin to communicate to your existing team about an opportunity that does not have anything to do with the existing business, your credibility goes down the proverbial toilet.

Any leadership relationship that you have created will dissolve.

Remember one important factor, just because you think it is a good opportunity does not mean that your down line will think the same way.

On another note, I am pretty sure that none of your down line gave you permission to contact them about “another” business opportunity.

The same goes for other network marketers currently at another opportunity. If you advertise and they actively pursue the advertising, then I believe that they are fair game. However, if you are contacting them without permission, such as calling genealogy lists as an example, then I believe this to be unethical.

How does this recruiting strategy negatively impact the credibility of the network marketing profession?

This type of strategy really takes a bite out of the credibility of the entire profession.

Now you might be saying, “So what, that’s not my problem.”

Well, unfortunately we all are part of the same community and thus are painted with the same brush.

What solution is there for this recruiting epidemic?

First of all it is important to note that I am not suggesting that it is unethical if you choose to move to another opportunity. I am only suggesting that it is unethical if you try and take your team with you.

Now as for a solution, my suggestion is instead of adopting this type of strategy, you actually learn how to attract the right people to your opportunity.

Learn to add value to others without the thought of getting anything back in return. Who knows, perhaps you next great leader in your business will call you.

Online Advertising 

One of the questions I am often asked is, “How can a Network Marketer advertise their business opportunity?”  

My first response is to explain the advantages and disadvantages of advertising a business opportunity directly. 

My personal choice is not to advertise my primary network marketing opportunity directly. The competition involved in advertising an individual business opportunity is fierce. I would rather advertise something that does not have any competition at all, that is Kevin McNabb. 

When I do offer some recommendations on “where” a network marketer could advertise, I seem to predominantly run into the following myth: 

“All advertising costs money.” 

Well, I beg to differ. If one was to fully investigate the advertising methods that are available to us, it would seem to me that the majority of them are free. 

Below you will find a list of advertising methods broken into categories such as; FREE, Small Monetary Monthly Investment and Large Monthly Investment. 

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it should offer some affordable options. 

Free Advertising Methods  

  • Forum Marketing
  • Online Classified Ads
  • Article Marketing
  • Press Releases
  • Video Marketing
  • Traffic Surfing
  • Signature Marketing
  • Blogging
  • Social Media
  • Craigslist
  • Warm Market
  • SEO

 Small Monthly Monetary Investment (under $50.00) 

  • Ezine Marketing
  • Banner Advertising
  • COOP Advertising

Each one of these methods is subject to written and unwritten rules of involvement. 

It would be my recommendation that you choose two or three methods to start and really become an expert at using those methods. Discover the intricacies of these methods and use them to add value to others. 

Example: Forum Marketing 

This method is a very effective strategy if used correctly. However, it can be a complete waste of time if one chooses not to learn the intricacies of this method. 

Most people will join a forum and attempt to “sell” either their business opportunity or a product or service within their forum post. 

This is a mistake and should be avoided at all costs. 

Instead, one should enter a forum community with the mindset of adding value to others and helping as many people as possible through their individual forum posts. 

Each forum community allows you to add a signature at the bottom of each post. This is the only area that is acceptable to show your offer to others. How you choose to do this is what will differentiate yourself within the forum community. 

I recommend that you choose your methods based on the following: 

1.       Budget

2.       Short, medium and long-term objectives. 

It does not make any “cents” to choose to use pay-per-click advertising if you are unfamiliar with how it works. It would be one of the fasts ways of going broke. 

I like to choose my methods based on how I expect the generation of traffic to perform. 

So, if I wanted a method that was a long-term approach, I would choose Article Marketing and blogging. If I was looking for an intermediate performing method of advertising, I would choose Video Marketing and Ezine Advertising. Of course, if I was looking for an immediate response to my advertising, I would choose pay-per-click advertising. 

Choose your advertising methods wisely and become as close as possible to being an expert in that area before taking on more complex advertising methods.
